If the banks are going to pull the plug and pull us down, we will fight!"
This article from the New York Times details the fight being waged outside of Chicago of Hartmarx garment workers. Hartmarx is a company that has been making men's suits for over 122 years. President Obama sported a Hartmarx suit made by these very workers just months ago for his inaguration.
The company needs to buy fabric for it's Spring line -- among other things -- and the bank, Wells Fargo is denying the company it's line of credit to be able to do so. This after Well Fargo recieved $25 billion dollars last fall as part of the $800 billion taxpayer funded bank bailout. The failure of this company would translate into 3,600 people without jobs -- with no way of putting food on the table or paying the bills.
If the banks are going to pull the plug and pull us down, we will fight,â€said Ruby Sims, president of the Workers United union local at the plant. We’re going to do whatever it takes to keep our jobs.â€
Worker's of this struggle shared of plans to create a national hotline for workers who are facing similar attacks and shutdowns across the country in the midst of extreme profit making by a few. Read about the struggle and plans to keep the plant alive:
