City Workers' in Camden Rally Against Drastic Cuts; Blockade Ben Franklin Bridge
On Tuesday, more than two hundred city workers in Camden rallied before city council demanding a vote of no confidence in the cities Chief Operating Officer Theodore Davis. The march, which shutdown traffic on the Ben Franklin Bridge, brought together police, firefighters and city workers and displayed a unified front against the municipal and state government, which we have not yet seen in Philadelphia.Of course the situation in Camden is special as the state essentiall took over the municipality in 2002 appointing a Chief Operating Office that has more power than the mayor and is responsible to Trenton not Camden. However, the unified front the workers have shown is something that has not yet been seen in Philadelphia and something that will be absolutely necessary if the firefighters, police and city workers want to challenge Mayor Nutter's budget.
