Cure CVS Campaign On Step Closer to Victory

Yesterday City Council came a step closer to regulating the sale of expired products at retail stores like CVS, which has a significant track record of selling outdated over-the-counter medicine, infant formula and dairy products at its Philadelphia stores and nationwide. The City Council Committee on Health and Human safety unanimously passed a bill on for an intitial reading this week and possible vote at next Thursdays City Council session.

Several community leaders, health care advocates and a city official testified in support of the bill. They say expired products are a threat to health care in Philadelphia and that regulation is needed to prevent the deceptive and potentially harmful practice. The corporate giant CVS, which is the leader of the retail drugstore industry, has continued selling expired products even while under public and governmental scrutiny. A law like the proposed outdated products bill would give consumers and government the ability to hold CVS more accountable.

Community leaders and healthcare advocates from the Cure CVS campaign will be attending the final vote on the bill next Thursday, June 18th at 10:00AM to show support and encourage all who are interested to attend.
