Rally for Security Guards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

On Thursday February 26th, students, workers, clergy and community members converged on the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) to rally around security guards working at the museum.

This diverse community of protestors came to demand, as Fabricio Rodriguez Executive Director of Philadelphia Jobs with Justice explained, "that the museum recognize the Philadelphia Security Officers Union as the legitimate bargaining agent for these workers."

The rally took place as the PMA had a grand opening of the new exhibit "Cezanne and Beyond." Towards the end of the rally Thomas Robinson, the chair of Philadelphia Officers and Workers Rising thundered, "I work for Allied Barton, so I know all the indignities that we face as workers so there is no one from the company and no one from the Art Museum that can tell me any different... I live the story every single day, I have co-workers that live the story every single day."

As the sun went down over the Schuykill River and Philadelphia's art goers enjoyed a glass of champagne and Cezanne's art, outside the gilded halls of the museum a crowd of 30 people chanted: "We'll be back... We'll be back."
