Scabies Treatment For Better Skin

A very catchy skin ailment that causes itching in a patient's skin is known as scabies, and sometimes known as the seven-year itch. It's from a mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei, a rather minute and almost invisible parasite with 8 legs, which delves within one's skin and creates extreme allergic itching. Tiny female mites infest you and me, with their male counterparts being even tinier.

A magnifying glass or microscope can be used to see the mites. These mites cannot move in places with temperature that is below 20 degrees C despite the capacity to survive for a long period in the said temperature. They also cannot fly or jump, thus, they just crawl. As they try to lay eggs, they suck the host's blood and flesh, causing a crawling sensation which can be painful and disturbing.

Scabies can be transmitted through a skin-to-skin contact. Scabies is spread, though, via really close contact between persons, so it can't be contracted by hanging one's jacket next to one belonging to someone with scabies, or by simply shaking hands. Sexual physical contact could transmit the disease. Scabies has already been considered as a sexually transmitted disease as it is common among sexually active young people.

The parts of the body where scabies can be found are on your knees, waist, wrists, buttocks, feet genital area, area around nipples, back of the elbows, and between your fingers. Scabies may appear on the face, neck, palms, and head, in infants and young children. These mites can interfere with one’s daily activities, thus, it is important to get it treated as soon as possible.

The use of scabies treatment drugs is the most convenient method for scabies treatment. Scabies treatment involves the use of permethrin and ivermectin. Permethrin is the best scabies treatment; it is applied everywhere but your head and you wash it off in 8 hours. Alternately, a treatment for crusted scabies is ivermectin- an oral anti-parasitic medicine.

Other alternate medications that can be used as scabies treatment are lindane, crotamiton, sulfur preparations, and antihistamines. Lindane is like permethrin, which is applied in the same manner, however, it can cause seizure if it is applied in a very irritated or wet skin. Although you can treat scabies in the most traditional way by using a cream ( sulfur mixed in petrolatum ), try using cortamiton, because it is both a lotion and a cream. Antihistamines just relieves the itching.

This home treatment for scabies would be ineffective if only one person is treated, as every infected person in the community should be treated to avoid re-infection. It is also important to disinfect household items, such as, linens, bedclothes, wardrobe, furniture, rugs, etc. as the mites die quickly without human hosts.
